HARRISBURG, Pa. (5/22/15)--PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., will provide the financial literacy component for a college access grant awarded to Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, known as PA GEAR UP-3, will provide free college access and success services to 2,838 students in the Allentown, Harrisburg, Norristown, and Lancaster school districts beginning in seventh grade and continuing through the first year of college enrollment.
PSECU has committed to participating in the program throughout the seven-year grant cycle.
“We believe making a long-term commitment to the GEAR UP program is very important, as financial literacy is an ongoing learning process,” said Barb Bowker, PSECU vice president of marketing.
“Working with this group of students and their families throughout the seven-year grant cycle will allow us to provide them with the most meaningful and impactful resources possible,” Bowker added.
Each school year, PSECU will create a customized, age-appropriate financial literacy curriculum and train GEAR UP program staff to use it with students in the four regions.
Representatives from the credit union will lead financial literacy workshops for parents and families in the Harrisburg region, while providing the materials for program staff to conduct workshops in additional regions.
