MINNEAPOLIS and GLENDORA, Calif. (6/9/15)--Open a savings account, and a worthy cause receives a donation.
Sounds like a sweet deal that two credit unions have offered new members.
At Diversified CU, Minneapolis, typically a $10 deposit is required for membership, but with the credit union’s 5-5-5 program, when a member deposits $5 into a new savings account, Diversified matches that amount. Twice.
The member receives an extra $5 in his or her savings account, and a $5 donation is also made to either Sharing and Caring Hands of Minneapolis or the Neighborhood Service Center of Waseca (Press Advantage June 7).
Sharing and Caring Hands provides local low-income individuals meals, clothing, shelter or help with other needs. The Neighborhood Service Center provides resources to those looking to improve their lives.
Meanwhile, America’s Christian CU, Glendora, Calif., donated $10 to The Vet Hunters Project each time a new account was opened at the credit union during Patriot Week, an annual event hosted by the credit union and dedicated to honoring local heroes, veterans and servicemembers worldwide.
Patriot Week ran May 18-22, but the credit union extended the promotion through the end of May.
The Vet Hunters Project is an organization that works to prevent and end homelessness for all military veterans.
“The hard-working hours these men and women dedicate to helping the countless homeless veterans are inspiring and appreciated,” said Mendell Thompson, America’s Christian CU president/CEO, who recently presented a check to the organization for $1,200. “This is a small token of our appreciation and support to helping our military heroes.”
