ALBANY, N.Y. (6/17/15)--When two dangerous inmates escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York last week, it engulfed the whole region in turmoil, as hundreds of law enforcement officers flooded the area to track down the still-missing criminals.
Branches of Dannemora (N.Y.) FCU, which serves employees at the correctional facility, were caught in the middle of the frantic search, and the credit union’s leaders told the New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) earlier this week that its staff remains on high alert, especially with the investigation recently homing in on the Dannemora area.
“The biggest impact all this has had on our members and employees is the roadblocks and searches associated with the blocks,” said Randy Martin, Dannemora CEO/manager and NYCUA board secretary (The Point June 16). “I think many people in the area are generally staying home until more information is available … but with all the police out in force, there is a feeling of relief.”
The massive presence of law enforcement officers, however, also has tamped down foot traffic at the credit union’s branch just outside the facility.
Though Martin told The Point that staff members at all the credit union’s branches remain on high alert.
“We made sure everyone knew the proper procedures in case something happened,” Martin said. “We’re taking extra precautions and we’re keeping an eye out for anything or anyone that seems out of place.”
