GREENWOOD, Miss. (7/6/15)--Hope FCU (HOPE) will open two new locations in the Mississippi Delta region to serve consumers who have been underbanked.
Starting in October, HOPE will operate full-service branches in Itta Bena and Moorhead, Miss. Members will have access to checking and savings accounts; consumer, mortgage and business loans; ATMs; and financial counseling.
HOPE chose Itta Bena and Moorhead branches because "we thought these communities could use the kind of services we offer," said Bill Bynum, CEO of HOPE (The Greenwood Commonwealth June 30).
Regions Bank donated the facilities to the credit union’s sponsor, Hope Enterprise Corp. "Regions Bank has been a longtime and invaluable ally to HOPE,” Bynum said in a release. “Their generous contributions of the facilities and financial support provide a tremendous boost to our efforts.”
Roughly 40 people attended the announcement ceremony in Itta Bena last week. Beginning Wednesday, HOPE will take applications for memberships. Itta Bena resident Gladys Fant told the Commonwealth that the credit union will help the town of roughly 2,000 residents.
"It's a good thing for Itta Bena. There is hope," she said.
With the addition of Itta Bena and Moorhead, HOPE will operate 24 locations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
