Visa settlement leads Aug. News Now Top 10 list

MADISON, Wis. (9/2/15)--Visa’s announcement that it would reach out to credit unions that are in line to receive settlement money for costs incurred as a result of 2013’s massive Target breach earned top honors for News Now’s Top 10 articles in August.

Target Corp. and Visa agreed last month to reimburse card issuers up to $67 million in costs related to the data breach that occurred in December 2013.

Visa informed CUNA that it would contact any credit union that’s eligible for part of the settlement.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (8/27/15)--Recently updated examination procedures from the National Credit Union Administration are intended to strengthen safeguards for data received electronically during an examination.

8. CUNA opposes CISA amendment granting NCUA vendor authority

WASHINGTON (8/6/15)--CUNA opposes an amendment to the Cybersecurity Improvement Act that would grant the NCUA additional authority to supervise third-party vendors. CUNA wrote to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) Wednesday to outline its objections.

7. CUNA publishes analysis of MLA final rule

WASHINGTON (8/11/15)--CUNA advocacy staff have completed an analysis of the U.S. Department of Defense’s final rule regarding military lending, and have published the results on CUNA’s Removing Barriers blog.

6. Citizens Bank fined for alleged unfair, deceptive deposit practices

WASHINGTON (8/13/15)--Actions by federal regulatory agencies against Citizens Bank require the bank to pay more than $37 million in civil money penalties and restitution, the agencies announced Wednesday.

5. CUNA announces Community CU of the Year winners

MADISON, Wis. (8/26/15)--CUNA announced the winners of the 2015 Community Credit Union of the Year Award, an honor that recognizes credit unions that have performed exemplary work related to community involvement.

MINNEAPOLIS (8/19/15)--Target Corp. has reached an agreement with Visa to reimburse card issuers up to $67 million for costs related to a massive 2013 data breach experienced by the retailer (The Wall Street Journal Aug. 18). Visa told CUNA that it will be in contact with credit unions in the coming days if they are eligible for part of the settlement.
