PORTLAND, Ore. (10/13/15)--Credit unions and credit union professionals were honored by the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) during the conclusion of its recent Amplify Convention.
The award winners are among highlights in a video that captured the events of this year’s Amplify Convention. The lyrics were written by NWCUA Project Manager Brent Petrek.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Patricia Smith, president/CEO, Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore. NWCUA President/CEO Troy Stang commended Smith for checking “off every box on the awesomeness list” with her leadership in membership and asset growth at her credit union, which keeps members as the focal point.
A successful name, brand and charter change resulted in the Innovation and Impact Award for Jim McCarthy, president/CEO of Portland’s Trailhead CU. Formerly Northwest Resource FCU, the credit union has gained membership among young residents of Portland--the average age of new members is 33. McCarthy also was noted for his membership of the Northwest Credit Union Foundation’s board and his legislative advocacy.
NWCUA honored Rachel Pross, assistant vice president of risk management, Oregon State CU, Corvallis, Ore., as the Young Credit Union Professional of the Year. Pross is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post, advocating on behalf of credit unions.
Kathie Philp, president/CEO, Pacific Crest FCU, Klamath Falls, Ore., and Tom Johnson, president/CEO, Spokane Teachers CU (STCU), Liberty Lake, Wash., were named the Oregon and Washington Advocates of the Year, respectively.
Regional awards for social responsibility, community service and financial education outreach also were announced at the conference.

Gesa CU and Maps CU also received Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Member Service Awards.
Desjardins Adult Financial Education awards went to Gesa CU, USAgencies CU, Oregon State CU and Rogue CU.
STCU, Rogue CU, Oregon State CU and Gesa CU also won Desjardins Youth Financial Education Awards.
