DEER PARK, Texas (11/24/15)--Shell FCU, Deer Park, Texas, will host a gas giveaway Dec. 2 at the Shell gas station located in Humble, Texas. The first 100 vehicles, which don’t need to belong to Shell FCU members, will receive $25 in free gas and a T-shirt. RICHMOND, Va. (11/24/15)--Jane Watkins, president/CEO, Virginia CU, will be inducted into the 2016 Greater Richmond (Va.) Business Hall of Fame, sponsored by Junior Achievement of Central Virginia.(Richmond Times-Dispatch Nov. 22). Watkins led Virginia CU to create and expand opportunities for financial education for credit union members, in schools and the community. She serves on the board of the Virginia Council on Economic Education, which worked with other organizations to secure educational requirements for Virginia students in economics and personal finance. Watkins plans to retire March 31 after 33 years at the Richmond, Va.-based credit union, including 15 years as president/CEO. When she became president/CEO in January 2000, the Virginia CU had 125,000 members, and it now boasts more than 247,000 members ...

Ed Culpepper

LEXINGTON, S.C. (11/24/15)--Malcolm “Ed” Culpepper, former president of the Arizona Credit Union League, died Nov. 13, in St. Matthews, S.C. He was 68. Culpepper’s career in the credit union industry lasted 42 years, included a stint as the league president from 1984 to 1992. “Ed Culpepper was well loved and served our Arizona credit unions with passion and heart,” said Scott Earl, Mountain West Credit Union Association president/CEO, in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his wife, Pat, and their family at this difficult time.” Memorial donations may be made to the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, 1231 Shields Rd., Ste. 5, Kernersville, NC 27284.
