CUPERTINO, Calif. (2/5/16)--More national retailers have added Apple Pay, bringing the mobile-payment service to more than 2 million retail locations.
Crate & Barrel, Chick-fil-A and Au Bon Pain are now rolling it out in stores, according to Bloomberg (Feb. 3).
Earlier this week, online retailer Zappos.com added Apple Pay to its iPhone and iPad apps. “We’ve been getting requests from customers to use Apple Pay for quite a while,” said Aki Iida, head of mobile for Zappos. “It makes the customer experience easier, why not try it?”
A report from TrendForce forecasts mobile payments will jump to $620 billion this year compared with $450 billion in 2015.
Apple Pay still faces a lack of supporting terminals at retailers, and consumers have been lukewarm about using the mobile payment system. In October, 16.6% of eligible iPhone owners had tried Apple Pay, an increase from 9% in November 2014, according to a survey by Pymnts and InfoScout.
