Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wis., greeted the nearly 5,000 credit union advocates gathered here for the 2016 CUNA GAC Monday by telling them, “You’re in good hands with my old friends Jim Nussle and Rich Meade.”
Ryan added that it is also wonderful to see Nussle and Meade, the group’s respective CEO and COO, with “such a great” organization as CUNA.
Nussle served in the U.S. House from 1991 to 2007, and from 2001 to 2006 was chairman of the House Budget Committee.
Meade was senior aide to the congressman and played a number of leadership roles.
Ryan, in a video prepared for the GAC, said he is “pretty familiar with credit unions and the value they provide.”
He praised the financial cooperatives for the critical financial role they play in the lives of more than 100 million Americans.
