FARMERS BRANCH, Texas (3/9/16)--In a move prompted by the league’s commitment to ensuring the success of member credit unions, Valwood Park FCU, Carrollton, Texas, recently re-affiliated with Cornerstone Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
"During our recent NCUA exam, we were told we needed some help with our policies--specifically to adopt a few new ones, clean up some existing ones and get some compliance assistance,” said Tammy Perkins, Valwood Park FCU CEO (Leaguer March 4). Perkins said the examiner recommended that the credit union join the league, which offers many resources that “would benefit me and would be useful to my credit union.”
Said Mike Delker, Cornerstone senior vice president of credit union relations: “I view it as a validation of our commitment to advancing the success of all credit unions, and I am very pleased they are once again a member. I am also grateful that the [National Credit Union Administration] recognizes the benefit of league membership as well and very much appreciate the reinforcement of this to the credit union."
"I don’t get out to conferences and seminars much because of our size, and the league has many resources available that can be used in-house," Perkins said. "I took my examiner’s recommendation and joined the league. I am now am able to utilize all the tools and services the league offers and get the help I need."
Valwood Park FCU serves more than 350 companies in Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Addison.
Compliance and advocacy are two of the vital benefits of the interdependence membership model offered by the league and CUNA, Cornerstone has noted.
