Four Pennsylvania credit union representatives experienced the Democratic National Convention (DNC) from the ground floor last week as volunteers.
The volunteers answered an invitation from PCUA Vice President of Government Relations Christina Mihalik to volunteer their time at the convention.
• Dave Whitehead, CEO of Merck Sharp & Dohme FCU, Chalfont;
• April Dunn, account specialist, Citadel FCU, Exton, and council member of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association’s (PCUA) Young Professionals Network;
• Veronica Ryan, account specialist, Citadel FCU and member of the PCUA’s Young Professionals Network; and
• Tracie Eller, branch manager Sun East FCU, Ashton.
Whitehead's job on the convention floor was crowd control, a role that provided him with “the experience of a lifetime.”
“This was history in the making, and it was taking place in my hometown,” Whitehead said. “Plus, there was the credit union philosophy of people helping people. I was there to help out.”
That said, Whitehead admits he wasn’t the greatest crowd control specialist.
“I’m a pretty nice guy,” he said. “I’m not a yeller or a screamer. It’s just not in my nature to tell people where to go. But people were friendly. There was no animosity or pushing and shoving. People were there to experience the event. It was fun for everyone.”
President/CEO Patrick Conway and Mihalik represented PCUA at the convention.
