In an effort to assist with the relief efforts in Southeast Louisiana, the Louisiana Credit Union League (LCUL) has issued the “Louisiana CU Strong Challenge” to credit unions across the state.
"We want to encourage friendly competition amongst our credit unions as they challenge each other to match or beat each other in donations to the Louisiana Foundation," said LCUL President/CEO Anne Cochran. "We have a strong CU movement in Louisiana, and we want to show the rest of the country just how resilient we are."
Credit unions can post a video or their official "challenge accepted" photo using the hashtag #LACUStrong. Videos and photos should be sent to Lacey Hyer, LCUL vice president of communications and public relations, along with the main contact for the challenge.
NAS JRB CU, New Orleans, is the first credit union to take the challenge.
LCUL offered a sample script for participating credit unions:
"XYZ credit union has accepted the Louisiana Strong CU Challenge and has donated X amount to the Louisiana Foundation. We challenge ABC credit union and other credit unions to match or beat our donation and for a member of your team to do 20 pushups/sit-ups/jumping jacks in support of the estimated 20 branches that suffered damages to show that we're Louisiana Strong."
Credit unions may challenge a specific credit union or issue a general challenge. Every credit union that makes a donation will receive signage for their branches, letting their members know that they've donated to the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation for recent flood victims.
The largest donation in each asset category is awarded a free lunch hosted by LCUL. All donors will receive recognition in league publications.
