CUNA hopes to see an NCUA budget that reflects considerations brought up in last month’s board briefing during Thursday’s vote on the agency’s 2017-18 budget. CUNA, its league partners and member credit unions addressed a number of concerns about the NCUA’s budget during last month’s budget briefing.
During the briefing, CUNA Vice President of Economics and Statistics Mike Schenk said credit unions deserve a “smaller and better” regulator. He added that credit unions would like to see continued evidence that the agency puts careful thought behind each year’s presentation and that the agency has a “laser focus” on keeping costs down.
NCUA Chair Rick Metsger promised that credit union stakeholders would listen to all recommendations, but stated “the board, and the board alone, will determine the agency budget.”
