Since the national launch of Juntos Avanzamos in September 2015, 32 credit unions across 15 states have been added to the network, now serving more than 4 million Hispanic consumers at more than 600 community credit union branches.
Created in 2005 by the former Texas Credit Union League, Juntos Avanzamos works to ensure credit unions have adequate policies, procedures, products, and services to meet the financial needs of Hispanics, a growing—and underserved—group.
Last year, the Cornerstone Credit Union League and the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions announced they would begin working together to expand the program nationwide. Their efforts have also been supported by Coopera, a firm that helps unions grow by reaching and serving the Hispanic market.
For fostering that spirit of inclusion, Dick Ensweiler, president/CEO of the Cornerstone League, was honored with a Friends of the Federation award the Federation's annual conference in Dallas in November.
“We are thrilled with the response from credit unions across the country, and the relationship between Cornerstone, the Federation, and Coopera, to serve the vitally important Hispanic demographic through Juntos Avanzamos,” said Jon Gorman, the Cornerstone league’s senior vice president of communications and outreach. “Credit unions in Texas, along with Mr. Ensweiler's leadership, recognized the needs of the community and the role that credit unions could play in being ‘capacity to serve’ Juntos Avanzamos credit unions. The response we've experienced during the past year has remained true to the program's English translation, 'Together We Advance.'”
