Reta Kahley, president of the Arkansas Credit Union Association, formerly the Arkansas Credit Union League, will retire Jan. 31, after leading the organization for 16 years.
She began her credit union career in 1988 with the Wyoming Credit Union League as director of education and training. She was promoted to vice president in 1994 and worked for the Wyoming league for nine years. She later became vice president of administration for Members Choice CU, Houston, Texas, where she oversaw training and education, human resources, facilities management, and security.
Kahley says she has made no specific plans for what she'll do when she retires. "We do want to do some traveling, and we’ve developed a travel bucket list, so we’re going to tackle that," she says. "I also want to play a lot of golf. "
Kahley credits two mentors who have affected her career. "One of the most influential people in my credit union life was Wes Millar, who just recently retired from CUNA and Affiliates. He was my boss in Wyoming, and I learned so much from him," she says. "Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our Cornerstone leader, Dick Ensweiler. He has been a great mentor, especially in my early days as a league president. I owe them both a debt of gratitude."
