As both America Saves Week and Military Saves Week approach, credit unions have the opportunity to apply for the America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence. Last year 19 credit unions received the designation, and this year’s week is Feb. 27 to March 4.
Coordinated by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council, America Saves Week is an annual opportunity for organizations to promote good savings behavior and individuals to assess their own saving status.
Military Saves Week is a component of America Saves, and a partner in the Department of Defense’s Financial Readiness Campaign, which seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth.
“America Saves recognizes the important role that credit unions play in helping families save money and build wealth,” reads the America Saves website. “That’s why we are recognizing credit unions that go above and beyond to encourage people to save during the week with our Designation of Savings Excellence.”
According to the designation committee, this year it is especially interested in recognizing credit unions that help their members save automatically.
Credit unions that have signed up to participate in America and/or Military Saves Week are eligible to apply. Applications will open March 6 and will close April 3.
