Bellwether Community CU, Manchester, N.H., filed a complaint against Chipotle last week alleging injury after a security breach that occurred in March. According to the complaint, the breach compromised names, credit and debit card numbers, expiration dates, card verification values and other information.
Chipotle announced in April that it detected unauthorized activity on a network that supports payment processing in its locations, estimating it occurred between March 24 and April 18.
The plaintiff alleges the breach was “the inevitable result of Chipotle’s inadequate data security measures and approach to data security.”
Bellwether filed the suit on behalf of similarly affected credit unions as a potential class action suit.
There is no action that affected credit unions must take at this time to make a claim, but credit unions that have experienced losses due to the Chipotle breach can contact counsel representing Bellwether if they desire at email@example.com.
