Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation and the Cornerstone Credit Union League's Disaster Response Team are prepared and ready at a moment's notice to help affected credit unions in the areas hit by Hurricane Harvey.
As a result of Hurricane Harvey's impact on southern Texas communities, more showers and flooding are expected on a scale that's unprecedented. Evolving conditions in the affected areas are being monitored, and Cornerstone's Disaster Response Team is assessing the needs of affected credit unions to ensure they have the resources to recover operations at full capacity as soon as possible and their members' financial access remains intact.
"Cornerstone Credit Union League and the Foundation stand ready to help all credit unions in regions affected by Hurricane Harvey," said President/CEO Caroline Willard. "Our Disaster Response Team has been prepared since before the hurricane struck, and we will continue to offer assistance when the storm and resulting flooding issues have passed."
It's an all-hands-on-deck situation, said Willard. Accordingly, Cornerstone has remained in regular communications with regional and national entities, such as CO-OP Shared Branching, NCUA, CUNA, National Credit Union Foundation, CUNA Mutual Group, Catalyst Corporate, and our other business partners to ensure that those credit unions in need have ready access to the assistance available.
"Credit unions are known for their community outreach, and this storm has brought out the best in us," Willard said. "We are seeing a generous outpouring of support from credit unions across the region and around the country, and we are updating our list of available resources all the time."
Also in response to the storm and to help raise money for credit union people in Texas, the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid disaster relief system has been activated.
Grant applications for disaster relief is available for affected credit unions and can be found via the Cornerstone Foundation’s website.
