The National Credit Union Foundation, through its online disaster relief system, CUAid, has collected more than $1 million in relief for credit unions affected by Hurricane Harvey.
CUAid has raised $817,765 with the Cornerstone CU Foundation raising $245,910, for a total of $1,063,675.
Potentially up to 6,000 employees are affected and many CUs are still closed in the disaster area. Already, the Cornerstone CU Foundation has received applications for over $500,000 in aid, with much more to come.
More damage may be imminent. Hurricane Irma is barreling towards Florida, threatening devastation on Southeastern credit unions. The Foundation is working with the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and the Southeastern CU Foundation to assess the situation and possibly launch a new CUAid disaster relief campaign if needed.
If the Foundation does launch a campaign specific to Irma, there will then be three donation options on CUAid.coop:
The first two options will be donations designated to credit union people affected by that disaster per our policies. The general fund goes to credit union people affected by any disaster, now or later.
