As Veterans Day approaches credit unions stepped up to join the National League of Cities, Purple Heart Homes, mayors and The Home Depot Foundation to participate in the second annual Operation Veteran Home Renovation campaign.
Purple Heart Homes Campaign Operation Veteran Home Renovation encourages credit unions to participate in 2018 to help more older Veterans with needed home modifications.
Each city helped to identify veterans who needed home modifications. Participating credit unions helped organize volunteers for approved project and budgeted or raised funds to help complete these projects.
“Purple Heart Homes is very grateful for the support received from credit unions to not only provide financial support, but to also volunteer to help our older veterans safely age in place,” said John Gallina, Purple Heart Homes executive director and co-founder. “Many older veterans live in homes built in the 1950s and 1960s that oftentimes are not suited for service connected disabilities combined with normal aging issues later in life.”
Among the projects credit unions have undertaken:
