CUNA’s Nussle congratulates Speaker Ryan on retirement

April 11, 2018
Jim Nussle

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle offered well-wishes and congratulations to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) upon reports today that he will not seek reelection in 2018.

“Speaker Ryan has been a friend to me personally and a friend to credit unions during his time in Congress and while serving as Speaker of the House,” Nussle said. “His intelligence and creativity has served this country and his constituents well since our time in Congress together. His strong sense of credit unions’ mission and purpose, as well as what they do to serve their communities every day helped advance regulatory relief legislation while continuing to protect the credit union tax status.”

Brett Thompson, president/CEO of the Wisconsin league, said credit unions and the Wisconsin league were “lucky to count him among our strongest supporters.”

As Speaker, Ryan visited Landmark CU, New Berlin, Wis., cited CUNA’s regulatory burden data in an economic report last April, and addressed the crowd via video during the 2016 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference.

His wife Janna helped cut the ribbon at the Republican National Convention leave-behind project at the 2016 convention in Cleveland, OH.
