You rotate from station to station, nervously sharing personal information with someone you might never have met before, hoping these initial conversations will spark a long-term relationship that helps you fulfill your wildest dreams.
Speed dating? Good guess, but no dice.
This is "Speed Savings," the novel event Sunmark Federal Credit Union, Latham, N.Y., devised to celebrate International Credit Union Day with a literal embodiment of the people-helping-people philosophy.
The $419 million asset credit union hosted the free event Oct. 16, giving both members and nonmembers the opportunity to meet for 10 to 15 minutes apiece with financial representatives about subjects such as mortgages, insurance, investments, and savings.
The Sunmark Federal team provided advice on how to save money, raise one’s credit score, and slash debt while crafting an action plan for each attendee.
“Speed Savings was a resounding success," says Lisa Totaro, marketing manager for Sunmark Federal. "We were able to offer personalized information for the members who attended, identifying savings opportunities for them, and generating deeper relationships and sales opportunities for Sunmark.
"We look forward to hosting more of these one-stop events where we can provide a full financial picture to members and potential members in Sunmark’s footprint.”
The credit union put its promotional muscle behind the event, which included crafting a humorous YouTube video
"It’s a little like speed dating without the creepy dude,” pledged the video, which features an exploding Justin Bieber head, a ceremonial gong, and the aforementioned creepy dude. “And we promise, at the end of the night, there will be no commitment—you’ll just have a solid financial plan from Sunmark.”
