MARLBOROUGH, Mass. (2/11/15)--The Cooperative Credit Union Association, with the assistance of 23 Massachusetts credit unions, donated 663 blankets to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and other local agencies across the state in January as part of the association's fifth annual Blanket Drive.

"The association has taken a simple idea and turned it into a tremendous opportunity for credit unions across the state to do what credit unions do best--work cooperatively to make a difference," said Paul Marotta, board chair of $1 billion-asset Hanscom FCU, Hanscom Air Force Base. "We're incredibly lucky to have a partner like the coalition, and members and staff who never fail to support them."
Credit unions were creative in collecting blankets. "Because we are a small group, the credit union offered to match each blanket donated by employees, and as a result, a total of 60 blankets were donated," said Kathleen Sawyer, director of human resources at Direct FCU.
Leominster CU held a jeans day on which employees donated $5 that went toward purchasing blankets.
