RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (10/9/14)--CO-OP Financial Services will host a new webinar next month on tokenization to update credit unions about the recently unveiled mobile payment system Apple Pay.
Called "Innovations in Payments," the webinar is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) Nov. 18.
"CO-OP is working with business partners and clients to make sure credit unions have the technical and marketing education they need to take advantage of the new Apple wallet," said Stan Hollen, CO-OP president/CEO. "This has included not only helping credit unions understand the Apple Pay opportunity, but providing the assistance needed to actually become enrolled as participants."
CO-OP also recently created a Tokenization Resource Center on its website to keep members informed.
Technologies such as tokenization and EMV are important steps to take in shoring up the overall payments system, the Credit Union National Association notes, but it also maintains that upgrades in technology alone do not reach nearly far enough to address the ballooning data-breach problem.
Until merchants are held to the same payment data protection standards as financial institutions, CUNA and credit union leaders nationwide have said, credit unions have little faith mere technology upgrades will result in any substantive change.
CO-OP's webinar will be hosted by Caroline Willard, CO-OP executive vice president of markets and strategy, and Michelle Thornton, CO-OP manager of core products.
