MOLINE, Ill. (12/3/14)--IH Mississippi Valley CU is helping Prophetstown, Ill., rebuild its downtown after a devastating fire. The credit union's new branch is the first business to open since a fire claimed eight buildings 16 months ago.
The $892 million-asset credit union constructed the new building in just four months. Laura Ernzen, IH Mississippi Valley CU's vice president of marketing, said she hopes the credit union's efforts sparks other business development.
"Sometimes, you want to be the start of the change, be the momentum that gets things going," she told KWQC-TV (Nov. 29).
The community helped celebrate the recovery efforts with a lighted Christmas parade on Saturday.
Firefighters, police officers and community members marched through the town as residents gathered to cheer them on. Businesses set up tents to raise funds for local charities and share treats with the crowd. The Moline, Ill.-based credit union offered hot beverages and snacks in celebration.
