SALT LAKE CITY (11/16/14)--As if today is not exciting enough being International Credit Union Day, it is also "Shop for Miracles" day--when credit unions from 33 states and representing more than 5 million members are helping sick children and their families through a Credit Unions for Kids initiative.
Each time members use their credit or debit card from a participating credit union, the credit union will donate 25 cents, or another pre-determined amount, to their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Like all Children's Miracle Network Hospitals donations, funds raised locally will stay in the community to support the hospital's greatest needs, often including life-saving research, treatments, equipment or charitable care.
"We're thrilled by the generous support of our credit union partners and the enthusiasm behind this new event," said John Lauck, president/CEO of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. "Shop for Miracles gives participating credit union members the opportunity to make an impact on local kids just by planning their regular shopping for Oct. 16. It's a simple ask that can make a big difference for children in need."
Credit union fundraising under the Credit Unions for Kids brand since 1996 has raised nearly $130 million for local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) and has made credit unions the third-largest contributor to CMNH.
Also today, International Credit Union Day celebrates the credit union difference and the work being accomplished around the world. (See related story: Today's the (ICU) day for 'Local Service. Global Good.')
