LOS ANGELES (2/25/15)--It's the cream of the crop of financial institutions.
After ranking the top financial institutions in their respective industries as part of its "Best Banks" of 2015 series, GOBankingRates.com released Tuesday its definitive list of the top financial institutions in the United States across all types.
Naturally, the cooperatively owned, not-for-profit type showed strong representation.
Out of the "41 Best Banks and Credit Unions of 2015," which included nontraditional and online financial institutions, eight were credit unions.
To determine the list, the Los Angeles-based consumer finance website looked at the 100 biggest banks by asset size, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., 36 credit unions and 30 online-only banks.
GOBankingRates concluded that the institutions that made the list will offer their members and customers the best features, rates, convenience, access and overall value this year.

GOBankingRates also has ranked the best savings accounts, the best checking accounts and the best certificate of deposit accounts for 2015 as part of the series.
