ROCKLEDGE, Fla. (2/13/15)--Community CU (CCU) of Florida is creating a visual history of local public education--and a link to its origins serving local school teachers.
The $461-million-asset Rockledge, Fla.-based credit union is partnering with Brevard Public Schools to gather old photographs, drawings, documents and paintings, which will be included in a digital archive and video on local educational history (Florida Today Feb. 11).
The credit union was originally formed in 1953 by Brevard County public school teachers as the Brevard County Teachers' CU, Meredith Gibson, CCU's vice president of marketing, told Florida Today.
"It's been something that's we've discussed at the credit union for some time, and the interest in it simply sprang from the close ties to the public schools," Gibson said.
So far 200 items have been collected for the project, Gibson said. "We've received classroom photos and some events, photos of past principals and buildings," she said. "People have sent albums that we'll have to go through and scan."
