The Cornerstone Credit Union League, which represents credit unions in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, recently hosted an orientation in San Antonio for the 12 executives, who hail from Brazilian financial cooperative group Sicredi (Leaguer Sept. 4).
After attending the orientation and Cornerstone's leadership conference and expo, over the next few weeks the executives-turned-interns will shadow staff at the host credit unions to gain a broader knowledge of how credit unions operate in this country.
"The partnership between Cornerstone and Sicredi is a great example of the collaboration within our industry," Victor Corro, World Council of Credit Unions vice president, told Leaguer. "It truly knows no national borders."
Sicredi has sent representatives to the Cornerstone region on several occasions since beginning its partnership with the league four years ago, including a trip in October 2013 in which interns worked at credit unions in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
Earlier this year, seven credit union executives from the Cornerstone region participated in two-week internships in Brazil as well.
