BOULDER, Colo. (11/14/14)--Elevations CU, Boulder, Colo., is a recipient of the 2014 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's highest presidential honor for performance excellence in innovation, improvement and visionary leadership.
Elevations CU, with $1.4 billion in assets, is the first credit union to receive the award, which represents the highest honor bestowed upon U.S. organizations for their achievements in leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce focus, operations focus and results.
Elevations was one of only four recipients recognized from a field of 22 applicants for the 2014 award. "The award really has its roots in business process management," Dennis Paul, Elevations CU's assistant vice president for business and community development, told News Now.
"Consumers have plenty of choices in the financial services landscape. We wanted to do it better than our competition. This is an initiative that is designed to make you the best you can be."
Paul said every functional area of the credit union was involved in this achievement. "Our staff has done a stunning job in terms of their commitment," he said. "Everyone can truly take credit for this award.
"We have formalized virtually everything we do," he added. "There are a lot of in-process metrics, so processes have to be virtually the same each time. That takes tremendous dedication, commitment and patience. We are truly a results-driven organization."
Upon learning of the honor, Elevations President/CEO Jerry Agnes thanked his staff. "I am blessed to work with our passionate staff who daily demonstrate their commitment to provide solutions for a better life for our membership and community," he said. "Elevations is truly a special organization; one that I am proud to say is the best place I've ever worked."
The credit union began its pursuit of the recognition in 2008 when Agnes took over as president/CEO, Paul said. But in the end, the true beneficiaries of the award are the credit union's members, he added. "Our commitment to our members has always been the catalyst behind this, and they will realize the yield on it."
To be considered for the award, an organization must receive its state's top award for excellence. In February, Elevations CU received the PEAK Award from Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence, Colorado's Baldrige-based body charged with helping organizations improve performance and achieve results.
