MADISON, Wis. (9/29/14)--The Filene Research Institute has announced that 20 new credit union executives have joined its i3 innovation program.
The i3 program, which aims to develop new ideas and innovations in the credit union industry, has helped cultivate popular credit union products and programs such as prize-linked savings accounts, Debt in Focus/SavvyMoney, Savings Revolution and Just4You.
"These executives join i3 at a point in our movement's history where innovation is critical," said Andrew Downin, Filene innovation director. "Credit unions face nontraditional competitors, disruptive technologies and increasing demands from consumers.
"This perfect storm of impacts requires that our industry adopt innovative thinking like never before. These i3'ers are going to lead the way."
Each "i3'er," who will be asked to further the efforts of the program, will serve a two-year term that starts at Filene's "big. bright. minds." event Nov. 11-12 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The program also has led to big things for its participants. More than 20 former i3 members have gone on to become CEO of a credit union or system organization, according to Filene.
In addition to the development of new and unique products for the credit union movement, i3 also imparts innovation competency to the next generation of credit union CEOs, Filene said.
