HELENA, Mont. (1/12/15)--Getting around the Capitol area in Helena, Mont., will be much more convenient this legislative session thanks to the state's credit unions.
Montana's cooperative financial institutions are helping sponsor a free shuttle service that will help make it easier for people to get to the State Capitol, meet their elected representatives and participate in the legislative process (KXLH-TV Jan. 9).
As with many capital cities, when the Montana Legislature is in session, parking is next to impossible near the Capitol in Helena. To ease that burden, the new shuttle service will run Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:10 p.m., making a loop every 15 minutes between the Capitol and outlying parking areas.
While the shuttle may seem like a small gesture, the idea behind it is to encourage public participation and supporting the democratic the process--both of which are key cooperative principles, the Montana Credit Union Network said (President's Report Jan. 9).
