BASINGSTOKE, England (11/4/14)--The introduction of Apple Pay has caused one research firm to brighten its outlook about the popularity of a mobile payment system.
Juniper Research, an analytical firm based in the United Kingdom, said in a report published last week that the new service should cause the number of devices using near-field communications (NFC) systems to reach 516 million by 2019.
The paper concluded that Apple's decision to use NFC "reduces the complexity of any stakeholder value chain." It also stated that the apparatus should reverse a general apathy in the United States toward contactless payment.
"We have also assumed slightly faster growth in user numbers of this element of the base due to the alleviation of our concerns surrounding the compatibility of Apple Pay with existing [point of sale] contactless infrastructure," the paper concluded.
