Washington, DC (April 18, 2018) – Credit Union National Association (CUNA), along with other financial trade associations, sent this letter to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation prior to their hearing titled “Abusive Robocalls and How We Can Stop Them” which is set to begin today at 10 a.m. Eastern.

CUNA and other industry groups are seeking greater clarity from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on what constitutes an Automatic Telephone Dialing System (ATDS) and how to deal with unwanted liability stemming from frequently reassigned numbers.

The ATDS is often used by credit unions to contact consenting customers regarding time-sensitive, critical information, such as low balance notifications, due date reminders and fee avoidance alerts. CUNA has emphasized the need for reform to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) in legal advocacy efforts and continues to fight for complete clarity for credit unions who are communicating with their members using modern technology.
