Washington, D.C. (June 5, 2018) – The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and its political action committee, the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC), are supporting a number of credit union-friendly candidates in eight states.

As California voters head to the polls on the busiest day of this election cycle, CUNA and the California Credit Union League are backing incumbent Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). The state operates in an open primary system – in which two vote-getters advance to the general election, regardless of party. Thirty-one other candidates from both sides of the aisle will run in opposition to Feinstein.

CUNA and league partners are closely watching the competitive races such as:

  • Alabama 2nd Congressional District: Incumbent Martha Roby (R-Ariz.) is supported by CULAC and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates. She faces four challengers in Tuesday’s Republican primary;
  • California 10th Congressional District: Incumbent Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.) is supported by both CULAC and the California Credit Union League. Denham will face off against two fellow Republicans and six Democrats;
  • Mississippi 3rd Congressional District: CULAC and the Mississippi Credit Union Association support District Attorney Michael Guest in the Republican primary to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.). Guest will face off against five other candidates. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff between the top two finishers on June 26;
  • New Jersey 2nd Congressional District: CULAC and the New Jersey Credit Union League are supporting state Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D), who is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.). Four Republicans will face off in the Republican primary for the seat, and November’s election will likely be competitive.
