Execs Virtually Invisible on Social Media

CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are not investing their personal time in it.

July 15, 2013
CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are investing in social media, but they’re not investing their personal time in it, according to Fortune.

These CEOs lag far behind the general population in overall social media participation, according to a study by Domo and CEO.com.

Results include:
  • Only 7.6% of CEOs at Fortune 500 companies use Facebook, compared with more than half of the U.S. population.

  • Only 4% of these CEOs opened Twitter accounts, compared with more than 33% of the population.

  • Overall, 70% of Fortune 500 company CEOs have no presence on social networks.
Those results are “just crazy” to Josh James, CEO of Domo, a cloud-based data-management company.

“CEOs who use social media are growing their businesses, attracting customers, generating exposure, and closing new deals,” James says. “As consumers become more social-savvy, so must company leaders. We expect to see CEOs getting more and more social in the near future.”
