Al George, a former California Credit Union League and CUNA chair, died Aug. 24.

He was “quite literally a lifetime credit union volunteer,” says CUNA President/ CEO Bill Cheney, “and he’ll be missed by us all.”

George was “the epitome of volunteerism and leadership, but most important, a personal friend,” says Diana Dykstra, president/ CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.

He served on the North Island Credit Union Board for more than 60 years. His volunteer credit union activities began in 1948 as a director of San Diego Gas & Electric Credit Union (now Financial 21 Credit Union), while he was a 43-year utility engineer for the company. In 1951, he became president of the credit union board and a league director.
