MADISON, Wis. (5/20/15)--One credit union and two executives were honored Tuesday during the CUNA CFO Council Conference in New Orleans.
CASE CU, Lansing, Mich., was honored with the first-ever Excellence in Finance Award. The CUNA CFO Council’s Excellence in Finance Awards recognize a finance department that has made significant contributions or has taken an innovative approach in one of the following activities: board education, collaboration, credit risk management, expense reduction/control, financial literacy, innovative portfolio management, interest-rate risk management, and project management.
Vincent J. Market, executive vice president/chief financial officer, TruMark Financial CU, Trevose, Pa., was named the CUNA CFO Council’s first-ever CFO Professional of the Year, which recognizes and honors the individual who exemplifies excellence in credit union financial management.
Justin Mouzoukos, chief financial officer, Mazuma CU, Overland Park, Kan., was honored as the 2015 CFO Volunteer of the Year. The award recognizes contributions to the council, which as a member-led organization relies on volunteers.
CASE CU was recognized for its achievements in finding creative solutions to solve financial challenges and create a stronger financial environment for their members.
The credit union’s finance department demonstrated initiative, creativity, commitment and long-term strategic thinking to achieve extraordinary results in 2014 and recognized the importance of educating its board and employees on how each of their individual roles can help strengthen the net worth ratio.
Market was recognized for his achievements in leading the development of a variety of financial surveys, scorecards, analyses and benchmarks of the key strategic goals and tactics to measure and strengthen a credit union’s overall performance.
He is an advocate and promotes financial literacy in public schools, education, career development and community involvement as an adjunct professor at LaSalle University’s MBA program.
Mouzoukos served on the CUNA Financial Education Steering Committee, CUNA CFO Council Sponsorship Committee, CUNA CFO Council Education Committee, CUNA CFO Council Conference Committee, CFO Crasher Program Development Team and recently was elected to the CFO Executive Committee.
In addition to his career at Mazuma CU, Mouzoukos started a company dedicated to the understanding and teaching of investment theory. Through this company, Monumental Financial Partners, he has been able to help young people take charge of their financial future and become savvy investors.
Mouzoukos serves as a fiduciary of Mazuma CU’s 401(k) and has helped several team members understand the importance of investing.
