ALEXANDRIA, Va. (10/6/15)--National Credit Union Administration staff are contacting South Carolina credit unions in areas affected by flooding and are prepared to assist credit unions if needed, the agency announced Monday.
President Barack Obama and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley have issued disaster declarations for the affected area. Regional NCUA staff are determining which credit unions have been forced to close. South Carolina has had 18 inches to two feet of rain in what weather forecasters are calling a 1,000-year storm.
Urgent needs grants of up to $7,500 are available from the NCUA’s Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives for low-income credit unions dealing with unexpected costs related to restoring operations disrupted by floods.
The NCUA maintains a hurricane and disaster information page, which includes additional resources, and the agency’s Consumer Assistance Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) Monday through Friday at 800-755-1030.
