CUNA Attorney’s Conference tackles cybersecurity, vendor contracts

October 26, 2015

ORLANDO, Fla. (10/26/15)--A record number of attorneys who represent credit unions and state credit union leagues will hear from legal experts at the 2015 CUNA Attorney’s Conference, which runs through Wednesday.

Today’s sessions include data security, cybersecurity and mobile device management; vendor-prepared contracts; overdraft actions and payday lending; and payments.

Amy Worley, shareholder in the North Carolina firm of Jackson Lewis P.C., will present attendees with information on cybersecurity threats facing credit unions today. She will stress the importance of risk assessment and provide advice on remediation tools and techniques that attorneys can use to better serve credit union clients.

Bruce Pearson of the California firm of Styskal, Wiese & Melchione will suggest effective ways to handle standard contracts provided by vendors to their credit union customers. He will recommend setting out clear deliverables on the front end of the contracting process. His advice will include addressing back-end issues a credit union may experience such as privacy violations, infringement suits and data breaches.

The conference features regulatory, legislative and compliance experts from CUNA, as well as speakers from the National Credit Union Administration, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and CUNA Mutual Group.

The annual CUNA Attorney’s Conference provides current and comprehensive legal, regulatory and compliance training as well as networking for attorneys with colleagues, regulators and subject matter experts.
