WEST JORDAN, Utah (11/10/15)--West Jordan, Utah-based Mountain America CU has been named one of the 50 best workplaces for diversity in a nationwide survey from FORTUNE.
Working with the magazines Essence and People en Español, FORTUNE polled companies known to have made inclusiveness a top priority, and Mountain America took No. 8.
Rankings were based on employee feedback and the organization’s demographic makeup, including both race and gender.
“This goes to show that we value employees of all different races, ages and ethnicities,” Laura Fischer, vice president of the employee experience and engagement team at Mountain America, told News Now. “We believe in diversity, and we pride ourselves on the fact that we have employees that represent the communities we serve.”
Mountain America, which also was named by FORTUNE as one of the greatest places to work in the United States period, boasts a workforce that’s both gender and racially diverse.
Roughly 60% of the credit union’s employees and 43% of the organization’s executives are women. Further, 16% of its employees are minorities, largely Hispanics.
“We embrace it, it’s just who we are,” Fischer said. “We just hire the most-qualified individuals. It’s not that we make this a focus: it just happens and it goes to show that our managers are making good business decisions.”
This year, Mountain America also has been named one of the "Great Workplaces for Women" (No. 18), "Great Workplaces in Financial Services” (No. 5) and “100 Best Workplaces for Millennials” (No. 47).
