Tenn. CUs pumped up for Friday’s gas giveaway

November 12, 2015

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (11/12/15)--It may be Friday the 13th tomorrow, but at least a few hundred people will be lucky enough to get free gas, courtesy of the Tennessee Credit Union League (TCUL) and the state’s credit unions.

Already getting attention from local media, the gas giveaway will be held in four Tennessee cities--Elizabethton, Jackson, Knoxville and Nashville--with credit union employees manning the pumps.

The second annual giveaway “gets the conversation started about credit unions,” Trish Patterson, TCUL vice president of education and information, told News Now. While one credit union employee pumps $25 worth of gas for the driver, another takes the opportunity to share the credit union difference and direct them to aSmarterChoice.org.

Credit union employees also will be wearing T-shirts bearing the phrase “Time for a Change.”

Local radio stations will be teasing Friday morning’s event, which is limited to the first 100 individuals at each participating gas station.

“Free Gas Friday is a way we can give a little bit back to the communities we serve,” Katy Jett, vice president of marketing at Enrichment FCU, told WATE-TV, adding that the credit unions are working to raise awareness of credit union services and that their main priority is helping members reach their financial goals (Nov. 9). Oak Ridge-based Enrichment is one of the many Tennessee credit unions participating in Friday’s giveaway.
