TAMPA, Fla. (11/20/15)--In a recent year-end survey from Suncoast CU, Tampa, Fla., members overwhelmingly told the credit union that they wanted the financial institution to offer health insurance options. So the credit union obliged.
In partnership with the for-profit subsidiary Members Insurance Center, Suncoast launched an online health insurance portal that anyone can access. The portal serves as a platform through which participants can comparison shop and enroll online for individual health coverage (Business Observer Nov. 13).
The site also offers options for vision and dental coverage.
“We found that often times if you’re looking for one type of insurance, you want others, like vision and dental,” Melva McKay-Bass, Suncoast senior vice president of business development, told Business Observer.
To ensure consumers are making informed decisions, they begin by selecting plans and getting quotes. If a consumer wants to proceed, he or she then can save the quote and talk to an agent to gather more information.
“What makes what we offer different is we provide access to a licensed agent that can answer any questions throughout the process,” McKay-Bass told the Observer.
Added Chip Coberly, vice president of member sales at GTE Financial, Tampa, Fla.: “Most credit unions are always looking for ways to enhance the experience of their members and add value. The trend right now is toward self-service and technology.”
