MADISON, Wis. (12/1/15)--Credit unions and leagues are reminding consumers that donations to credit union foundations today for #GivingTuesday can have wide-ranging positive effects thanks to the number of causes these charitable organizations already support.
Held annually, #GivingTuesday asks Americans nationwide to reach into their pockets and give to important causes and organizations that have been established to support those in need.
The Ohio Credit Union Foundation hopes members will consider donating to the causes it supports, so that it can continue to “provide a bright financial future” for the communities the state’s credit unions serve.
“As the need for financial education, professional development, and community development increases, so does our willingness to help,” the foundation said (eLumination Nov. 18). “All contributions go directly to grant-making; no administrative or overhead costs are deducted.”
Donations to the New York Credit Union Foundation, meanwhile, will be doubled, as the foundation said it will earn matching funds from the Network for Good organization for all donations made.
The foundation reminded credit union members in the state that it’s important to celebrate a day “dedicated to bringing together charities, families, businesses, students and communities to celebrate generosity to give back.”
Montana Credit Unions for Community Development, the charitable arm of the Montana Credit Union Network, also is encouraging donations today.
Celebrating the day in its own way, the National Credit Union Foundation will host a Twitter chat today at 3 p.m. (CT) to have a discussion about credit unions’ charitable activities. To participate, credit unions can sign into Twitter at the time of the chat and search for #foundationchat or @NCUFoundation.
