LAS VEGAS (1/13/16)--Diebold and EyeLock, a provider of iris-based identity authentication solutions, have introduced a screenless ATM that works without a PIN pad, card reader or screen at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The machine works with a mobile app on the user's smartphone to stage transactions, which are carried out via near-field communication and QR code technology--with ID verification conducted via EyeLock iris scanning.
Users of the ATM, dubbed Irving, open the app on their phone or tablet, designate the amount to be withdrawn, and then proceed to any EyeLock-equipped ATM on the network to complete the transaction. The machine scans the user's iris to ascertain identity, verify the transaction via QR code, and then dispenses the desired sum.
The process takes less than half the time of a typical ATM transaction today, Diebold and EyeLock said.
The ATM concept is being tested at the Citibank Innovation Lab in New York, the release said. No date has been set for in-market testing or deployment.
