The next big thing for credit unions, says Northwest Credit Union Association President/CEO Troy Stang, is “100% advocacy engagement 100% of the time.”
“That’s how we ensure that everyone who wants to have access to not-for-profit cooperative financial services can benefit from the value generated by these cooperatives,” he says.
In the second of a three-part series, Stang and five other credit union league executives identify “the next big thing” for credit unions. Part three will be published January 22.
“Imagine for a moment that every contributing and engaged member is a voice to protect and advance the credit union movement in an era of rapid technological change,” Stang continues. “In the Northwest we call it a “Five Million Seat Advocacy Strategy.”
“We believe every member deserves to understand the structural difference that makes credit unions a smarter choice. Our standing challenge to the leadership of our movement is to ensure that every credit union director, every executive, and every staff member is 100% equipped to educate their 5.2 million members in every transaction, every day.
“That’s how we make advocacy a part of every credit union organizational mission.
“This Five Million Seat Strategy is not only a great marketing strategy, it also doubles as the secret sauce the movement needs to remove barriers and to advance the credit union charter to exceed the expectations of millions of Americans for generations to come.”
