WASHINGTON (3/11/16)--The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) reviewed the agenda for its 2016 Legislative Summit at a luncheon meeting here this week. NCSL’s Executive Director Bill Pound noted that this year there will be “deep dive” sessions, in addition to the established standing-committee sessions.
The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) will closely monitor a "deep dive" into sales tax topics, as well as activities of the NCSL's newly formed task force on cybersecurity.
CUNA is a member of NCSL’s Communications, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce Committee and its Task Force on State and Local Taxation. The Legislative Summit is the nation’s largest gathering of state legislators and is where legislators and legislative staff come together to work on the nation's pressing issues, share experiences and influence federal policy.
The summit is scheduled for Aug. 7-11 in Chicago. Registration is expected to open on Monday.
At last year’s NCSL Legislative Summit, CUNA joined the Northwest Credit Union Association, American Association of Credit Union Leagues, CUNA Mutual Group, Washington state credit unions and other leagues to raise awareness of the credit union movement. This was done through marketing and local media outreach efforts.
More than 900 state legislators from all 50 states, as well as more than 4,000 other attendees, had the opportunity to hear about credit union issues such as dual chartering, transportation network company insurance, payday lending and data security at the summit.
A number of attendees also engaged with CUNA and league staff at the America’s Credit Unions exhibit booth.
