WASHINGTON (3/14/16)--The U.S. Senate Banking Committee voted 14-8 to approve the nomination of Adam Szubin to be the Treasury Department’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes.
The position is in charge of directing the Treasury's efforts to cut financial support for terrorists, fight financial crime, enforce economic sanctions and combat the financial support of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Szubin is currently serving in the counterterrorism post at Treasury in an acting capacity. He has served in both Republican and Democratic administrations in senior positions related to economic sanctions and countering terrorist financing. From 2006 to 2015 he directed Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
