LONDON and SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (3/28/16)--Cloud-based ATM hardware, software and processing opens the ATM environment to providing services beyond cash, according to a white paper from the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA).
“Innovation in the ATM industry right now is the hottest it has been in over a decade,” said Mike Lee, ATMIA CEO. “Eric [de Putter] has expertly assessed how the cloud can empower a new generation of ATM software and hardware.”
Author Eric de Putter, managing partner of Payment Redesign, reviewed evolving cloud-based ATM solutions. The report covers topics such as lowering the total cost of ownership by using cloud services, possible future applications of the technology and impact on future operating system upgrades and migrations.
Using the cloud also offers increased ability to connect to non-banking applications, including selling lottery tickets, voting and making charitable donations--simply by adding apps to the ATM.
“It’s no exaggeration to say we’re entering a new era for ATMs,” Lee added. “This report will help our members understand the window of opportunity better which is opening up before our eyes.”
