With members of Congress away from the nation’s capital in the month of August, it’s a good chance for credit unions to make connections with legislators in their home districts. One of the best ways to show policymakers the credit union difference, and the importance of regulatory relief, is to invite the members for a credit union visit.
“Invite your representatives, your senators to your credit union to meet your members, employees and volunteers,” said Ryan Donovan, CUNA’s chief advocacy officer. “This is a win-win for credit unions and the member of Congress. It exposes the legislators to credit unions and gives them an insight on how they operate and who they serve, and it gives them the opportunity to interact with their constituents.”
Donovan suggested 2 ways credit unions can set up visits:
“It’s always a best practice to involve the league, but credit unions can definitely contact the legislator’s office directly,” Donovan said. “A credit union visit will go a long way to developing a deeper and longer relationship with your local representative.”
